The U-Pass is a special transit pass that provides full-time students with unlimited access to HRM’s Metro Transit for the academic year, from September through April.
Who is eligible?
It is mandatory for all full-time students. Part-Time students are not eligible. There is no opt-in or opt-out for this program.
How much does it cost?
All full-time students registered in three or more on-campus courses per semester will be charged a mandatory $146.00 U-Pass fee. Students who are registered in fewer than three courses in the fall semester but are registered in three courses in the winter semester will be charged $72.50 for the U-Pass from January to April.
Students commencing their studies at Saint Mary’s University registered in three or more on-campus courses for the winter semester will also be charged the $72.50 rate.
Where do I obtain my U-Pass?
Your U-Pass sticker is available beginning September 1 st or the first day of classes in January. You can pick up your U-Pass at the Information Desk in the lobby of the Student Centre. Simply show your validated student ID and the Desk staff will provide you with your U-Pass.
No student ID? Pick one up at the Services Plus desk in the Patrick Power Library. You do need your student ID to Receive a U-Pass.
Student ID lost, stolen, or destroyed?
To replace your student ID there is a $20.00 administration charge payable at the Services Plus Desk located in the Library. An additional $15.00 administration charge for issuing a replacement U-Pass sticker. You can receive this replacement U-Pass at the SMUSA office on the 5 th floor of the Student Centre.
Bus schedules and route maps are located at the Information Desk in the Student Centre and on information posts at campus bus stops. For further transit schedule and route information, please call the HRM Call Centre at (902) 490-4000 between 7:30 a.m. and 10 p.m., seven days a week. Or to find out when the next two buses depart any stop, dial 465 plus the red four digit telephone number displayed on your nearest bus stop sign.
Appropriate Use of your U-Pass
Your U-Pass cannot be loaned, sold or otherwise transferred in any manner to any other person.
Metro Transit will confiscate U-Passes which are not used specifically by the student whose picture appears on the ID card. If a Metro Transit bus driver has confiscated your U-Pass card, please contact the General Manager of SMUSA on the 5 th floor of the Student Centre.
Students with Disabilities
Saint Mary’s University students with disabilities who use Access-A-Bus are eligible to use this program. Students with a CNIB pass do not have to use this program and must visit the 5th floor Student Centre to waive the U-Pass program.
