What is the SMUSA Function Department?

SMUSA Functions employs Saint Mary’s student to provide professional bar/beverage services for on-campus events. We specialized in concerts, dinners, social gatherings, receptions, Wine & Cheese events, football games/sporting events, society events, etc.!

Who can use SMUSA Functions Services?

Functions’ services are available to faculty, staff, and students at Saint Mary’s as well as any external group that is hosting an event on campus.

When you have determined your choice of services and products, a quote can be provided by the Operations Manager, who can be reached at 496-8703.

The University reserves the right to control all sales and/or services of alcohol beverages by verifying age and having the additions of security at the client’s expense.

All alcohol on campus MUST be provided by the SMUSA Functions Department and security must be visible at all functions in order to provide a safe environment for the clients.

How can I book an event with SMUSA Functions Department?

When planning an event on campus you must first contact Conference Services at 420-5486 and pick up a “Liquor Request Form.  Conference services will assist you with room booking chair/table set up, security, audiovisual needs, parking, etc. The Operational Manager will assist you with product and service. If you are looking for catering at your event call Aramark with more information at (902) 420-5159 or https://smuaramark.catertrax.com/index.asp

Locations for bar/beverage services include: Loyola Conference Hall, Sobey’s Building, the Student Centre Cafeteria, near Homburg Athletics Squash Courts, McNally Theatre Auditorium, Faculty Lounge, Open Mic’s and TGIT SMUSA parties at Gorsebrook Lounge. The Gorsebrook Lounge is also available to be booked but this must be done directly with the Operations Manager, Graeme MacKenzie, by calling 496-8703.

Any liquor served at your event must be consumed in the licensed area of the campus and must be arranged through the SMUSA Functions Department. Any other means of providing alcohol is contrary to the Nova Scotia Liquor Control Act. When ready to book your liquor services event please call the Operations Manager at 496-8703.

When requesting liquor services please provide notice at least five (5) days in advanced

In accordance with the Liquor Control Act, all liquor supplied through the SMSUA Functions Department must remain on campus – no exceptions.
