The Saint Mary’s University Students’ Association (SMUSA) is pleased to introduce new providers for both the Health & Dental Plan and the International Health Plan.

The SMUSA Health & Dental Plan will now be provided by Medavie Blue Cross, a change that will give students enhanced features and better access to their plan. Although most of the benefits, including medical, dental, travel and accident coverage will remain the same, students will now be able to access a “Quick Pay” option at any Medavie Blue Cross branch, including the Halifax Branch in the Scotia Square Mall, where claims are processed by customer service representatives in real time during a visit to the branch and students can receive payment during the same visit. In addition to this, students will now be able to track their plan through the Blue Cross app (available through the Apple App Store and Google Play).

If you would like to opt-out of this plan, the deadline to do so is Monday, September 25th at 5:00pm (ADT). This can be done through SMUport (https://smu-cas.smu.ca:8447/cas-web/login?service=https%3A%2F%2Fsmuport5.smu.ca%2Fc%2Fportal%2Flogin).

The SMUSA International Health Plan, including the International Basic Health Plan and the Companion Plan (for students who have opted out of the International Basic Plan with MSI) will now be provided by Intrepid 24/7. One major change to this plan is the introduction of the I.M. Well app. I.M. Well, short for Integrated Mental Wellness, integrates the various campus and community services for students by addressing the stigma around Mental Wellness, and then assisting students in navigating to the appropriate service, whether it be on campus, or around the community. This app will allow international students to connect privately with certified counsellors in 180 languages, track their moods and feelings and find campus and community resources.
