OUR EXECUTIVE TEAM
Augustina Tucker (she/her)
President & CEO
Hi everyone! My name is Augustina Tucker, and I’m incredibly honoured to serve as your SMUSA President for the 2025–2026 academic year. As a student double majoring in Finance and Economics, I’ve spent the last few years deeply involved in student leadership—working to empower, represent, and uplift our diverse student body. I ran for this role because I truly believe in the power of student voices and the importance of creating a university experience that’s inclusive, engaging, and supportive for all.
This year, my focus is on transparency, collaboration, and action. I’m committed to advocating for your needs on and off campus—whether that’s ensuring affordability, amplifying equity, or enhancing campus life through fun and meaningful programming. I’ll be working alongside an incredible team to make sure SMUSA stays connected to students and continues to be a space where your concerns are heard, valued, and acted on.
My vision is to help create a campus where every student feels seen, supported, and inspired to thrive—not just academically, but personally and socially too. I’m so excited for what’s ahead, and I can’t wait to work with all of you to make this year the best one yet!
Angelica Amara (she/her)
Vice President - Academic
Hi! I’m Angelica Amara, your SMUSA Vice President Academic for 2025–2026. I’m a third-year Political Science student originally from Freetown, Sierra Leone, and I’m so excited to be stepping into this role.
As VP Academic, I’m here to advocate for students and support stronger connections between faculty, staff, and the student body. Whether its making academic policies clearer, helping students navigate grade appeals, or listening to concerns about teaching tools and classroom accessibility—my goal is to make sure no one feels lost or unheard. I also want to be a resource for faculty and staff who are equally invested in creating the best possible academic experience. It’s about open conversations, shared goals, and building real solutions together.
Outside the office, I’m a huge music lover (R&B and Afrobeats have my heart), an unapologetic The Office superfan, and a traveler (let's talk about our dream destinations!).
You’ll often find me in the VP Academic office with a matcha, snacks, and an open door. Come by to talk academics, grab candy, or just hang out—I’m always happy to chat. Let’s make this year one to remember.
Nariman Djamai
Vice President - Societies
Hi! I’m Nariman Djamai, and I’m excited to be your Vice President of Societies for the 2025–2026 year. I’m originally from Algeria and currently studying Chemistry and Physics here at SMU, but more than anything, I’m someone who’s passionate about community, student leadership, and making people feel like they belong.
Societies have been such a meaningful part of my university journey. They gave me my first real sense of connection on campus, people to laugh with, learn from, and build with. That’s why I applied for this role: because I believe every student deserves that same experience of finding their people and creating something bigger than themselves.
This year, I’ll be working closely with our 60+ student societies to help them grow, lead, and thrive, whether that means launching a brand-new group, expanding an existing one, organizing events, or navigating SMUSA’s processes and policies. My goal is to make things easier to understand, more transparent, and rooted in what truly matters to students: building real community.
You can usually find me in the library with coffee, half-answering emails and half-studying (with a strong emphasis on the coffee). I genuinely love hearing new ideas and meeting new people, so if you ever have a question, need support, or just want to talk, never hesitate to reach out, even if it’s just for a chat.
Let’s build something amazing this year, together.
Naomi Selemane (she/her)
Vice President - Events & Engagement
Looking to make your time at SMU memorable? I’ve got you covered!
Olá (Hello) everyone. I’m Naomi Selemane, a fourth-year student majoring in Economics & Marketing, and I’m honored to serve as your Vice President of Events & Engagement for the upcoming year. Originally from Mozambique, my journey into this role stems from navigating a new culture and community, an experience that fuels my passion for creating welcoming spaces.
As an international student, I believe a strong university experience goes beyond the classroom. That’s why I’m passionate about building a student experience rooted in connection, belonging, and joy. In this role, I’m committed to creating inclusive and engaging events that reflect SMU’s diverse and vibrant student body, from international to local students, returning students to mature students. Everyone deserves to feel part of something here at SMU.
You’ll probably find me baking, filming content, or eating when I'm not planning events. Know any incredible restaurants I should try? Feel free to tell me! I genuinely enjoy building meaningful connections with people.
Whether you have feedback, an idea for an event, or just want to chat, I’m always happy to listen. My door and email inbox are open. Let’s make this year one to remember – together.
