Basic Information
What is a Suspension Appeal?
Currently, there is no formal Senate committee to review Academic Suspension or Dismissal Appeals. Each faculty evaluates these appeals using their own internal processes.
If you feel that you have valid grounds for appealing your suspension or dismissal, we strongly encourage that you visit us to help you plan your appeal package and prepare for the next steps. You can also meet with the Advisor to discuss your case.
When a decision has been made, you will be notified using your preferred email. This process can take up to 30 days to complete, and a copy of your appeal will be kept on your student file.

What You Have to Do.
To file an appeal, you must fill out the Academic Suspension Appeal Form, which can be found on the Saint Mary’s University website. In addition to this form, you must include the following:
A letter answering the following questions:
The reasons for your academic performance to date.
What specific steps you have taken to address issues affecting your academic performance.
Your plans to ensure your future academic success.
Any relevant professional documentation to support your appeal (notes from a doctor, psychologist, etc).
Once you have gathered all the documents for your appeal package, submit it to your Faculty Advisor, preferably in person.
